The design for this large contemporary home has been configured to maximise the limited depth of the site. The ground floor rooms are set around a series of garden courtyards, with the first floor bedrooms designed in a set-back linear arrangement allowing southern daylight to spill into the spaces below.
The challenge of the elongated floor plan is met using a series of interconnected open-plan living spaces with more private and intimate rooms at each end. The primary facade has been designed to integrate the dwelling seamlessly into the sylvan character of the site using a simple palette of timber and glass. Vertical timber fins break up the extensive elevation and set up a echoing rhythm to the mature trees rising steeply on the bank behind.
